Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What should I wear?

Sturdy shoes! Yes, first of all, you need shoes that will protect your feet -- from horses hooves, rocky ground, or mud. Then you need comfortable clothes, dressing in layers and depending upon the weather, but always bring along a few more items than you think you might need.  It can be windier out on our hill than many places nearby. Lastly, remember a hat, sunscreen, and bugspray.

2.  Should I attend a workshop or schedule an individual session to work with the horses?

People have done it both ways.  Most who schedule individual sessions do attend workshops.  When you are beginning, the workshops allow more time for learning and practicing the basics of this approach.  In addition, supporting others as they have an experience with the horses, helps to put your own in context.  For instance, after a very significant and moving individual session, a woman said , "Well, maybe it was just a coincidence."  When you watch numerous sessions with different people over the course of a two-day workshop, you begin to understand the unique nature of how the horses reflect our deeper truth.

3. I'm afraid of horses.  Can I attend a workshop or benefit from an individual session?

Absolutely, you can participate, giving yourself permission to work at your own comfort level and proximity to the horses.  This work really is an invitation to examine your embodied awareness, to tune into your body's reactions, and to learn to trust yourself. The horses will help, even if you choose to stand on the other side of the fence.

4.  What should I bring?

Water or a non-glass bottle you can fill at the pump. Depending upon season and weather, bring a sun hat, bug spray, rain jacket, snacks, and anything else to help make you comfortable.

5. Will I be riding the horse?

No, not initially at least.  Much of our work is unmounted, but for those who are familiar with the basics of this work and who truly have the desire to ride, we can arrange for Reflective Riding sessions.
